Planck Spectrum: shape of thermal emission
$$ B_{\lambda}(T)=\frac{2hc^2}{\lambda^5}\frac{1}{e^{hc/(\lambda k_B T)}-1} $$
- $B_{\lambda}$ is spectral radiance at wavelength $\lambda$ and temperature $T$.
- The $\lambda^{-5}$ prefactor boosts short wavelengths, but the exponential term suppresses them even more strongly.
- Result: one peak plus two different tails, not a symmetric bell curve.
